WORLD ARCHITECTURE DAY – 7 OCTOBER 2019The UIA marks World Architecture Day on the first Monday of every October, to celebrate the power and value of architecture. It is an occasion for its Member Sections throughout the world to stage events and actions that advance architecture in the public eye.This year’s theme will be “Architecture… housing for all”, exploring how architects can contribute to solutions ensuring universal access to safe housing. UNESCO-UIA WORLD CAPITAL OF ARCHITECTUREThe Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Crivella, launched the Rio 2020 Council for the first UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture programme on 10 September 2019. UIA Working Bodies and Member Sections are invited to participate in the World Capital of Architecture Programme by submitting proposals for events to Rio de Janeiro City Hall.Find out more
UIA WORLD CONGRESS COPENHAGEN 2023The Danish Association of Architects, part of the Nordic Member Section of the UIA, has launched the website of the UIA World Congress of Architects: Copenhagen 2023. The event will take place on 2-7 July 2023 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The congress theme will be “Sustainable Futures: Leave No One Behind” examining how architecture can contribute to the achievement of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.Find out more
2020 INTERNATIONAL VELUX AWARDRegistration is open for the International VELUX Award (IVA), a biennial ideas competition for students of architecture. It invites students from all over the world to create projects investigating the role of daylight in our everyday lives. The award has been endorsed by the UIA since 2004.Find out more
LIANG SICHENG ARCHITECTURE PRIZEThe nomination process has begun for the 2020 Liang Sicheng Architecture Prize. Organised by the Architectural Society of China, the prize awards architects, architectural theorists and architectural educators who have made significant achievements and outstanding contributions in the architectural field. UIA-CBC INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPThe 2019 UIA-CBC International Colleges and Universities Competitive Construction Workshop reached its conclusion on 18 August. The workshop, co-hosted by Siyang County People’s Government, CBC (China Building Centre) and the Tianjin University School of Architecture, is the first, and currently the only, competitive construction workshop in China to receive official recognition and support from the UIA.Find out more
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS COMMISSIONArchitects around the world are invited to submit exemplary architecture projects to be included in the second edition of ‘An Architecture Guide to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals’. The Commission is accepting architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning projects that illustrate the different ways in which architecture can contribute to the achievement of one or several of the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The deadline for submission is 20 October 2019. This Commission will meet on 16 October in Cairo (Egypt).Find out more
ARCHITECTURE AND CHILDREN WORK PROGRAMMEMembers of the Architecture and Children Work Programme will take part in Denkraum Bauhaus, the 6th international symposium on the mediation of Architecture on 27-29 September 2019 in Weimar, Germany. They will present the UIA publication “An architecture guide to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals” and discuss the importance of educating children about the built environment.Find out more
