The NIA President, Arc Mobolaji Adeniyi led a delegation from the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024, to a strategic meeting with the Honorable Minister of Mines & Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu.
Aligned with the new administration’s “Unity to facilitate progress & impactful advocacy” agenda, the meeting was aimed at enhancing architectural contributions to the mining and steel industry.
Accompanying her were key members of the NIA Executive Council, namely 1st Vice President, Arc. Sani Saulawa, FNIA; 2nd Vice President, Arc.Chioma Wogu Ogbonna FNIA; The Honorary General Secretary, Arc. Chike Chamberlain Ibeanu, FNIA; Chair, NIA Disciplinary Committee and former Minister Mines and Steel, Arc Musa Mohammed Sada FNIA and Ex-Officio Officers Arc Joy Baderin, FNIA, and Arc Justice Akwuh, FNIA. Chair Abuja Chapter Arc Yemi-Sola FNIA and Arc Ahmad Naibi, 2nd Assistant Secretary.
The President emphasized the NIA’s commitment to collaboration. In the discussions, the NIA recommended to the Federal Government through the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development to invest in public enlightenment initiatives across the country while strengthening the regulatory framework, especially with the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) as well as the professional bodies in the built evironment.
In her Speech, The NIA President reiterated the importance of Steel development to architecture as well as the industrial revolution, pointing out how it has enabled the mechanization of human activities including the construction industry where it has provided strength in buildings thereby allowing for flexibility in planning.
